Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Assembly and TIPRA Motha leader Animesh Debbarma today requested Chief Minister Manik Saha to intervene and stop the ‘Janajati Suraksha Manch’ from organising the scheduled rally on Christmas to avoid any law and order situation in the state.

The rally is being held to demand delisting of converted tribals from the Schedule Cast category.

Animesh Debbarma has requested CM Manik Saha’s intervention in the broader interest of maintaining stability within the region.

Debbarma has written a letter to CM Manik Saha citing apprehensions that the rally on Christmas might jeopardize the prevailing peace and harmony in the state.

“Janajati Suraksha Manch has planned a procession in Agartala on 25th December 2023, advocating for delisting of converted Tribals from the ST (Schedule Tribe) category. Christmas Day in Tripura is widely being celebrated by all communities, coincides with this event, raising concerns about potential disruptions to our State’s peace.
Recognizing shared apprehensions from all Opposition parties, including ours, I would request your intervention not to permit the rally in the broader interest of the State,” Debbarma’s letter read.

It may be mentioned here that yesterday Northeast Live had tried to get a response from CM Manik Saha regarding the government’s plan on the proposed rally but he refused to comment.

TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma also said that the rally is designed at dividing the people. He asked all Tiprasas to stay united, away from all attempts to divide the people.

“Hatred and negativity in the community or society will not benefit us; they will only make us poorer. Money does not make a person wealthy; rather, one’s mentality does. Progress occurs when people share each other’s happiness and pain. I have observed that certain people are attempting to divide the Tiprasa people in the name of religion on December 25. They are merely attempting to enrage us. Our actions will be wrong if we become enraged. Therefore, I request all of you to stay united, calm and patient,” said Pradyot Debbarma.
