Vincent Pala does not believe that Sangma’s political career is on the verge of extinction.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President Vincent Pala said on Monday that if Mukul Sangma wishes he will not only be welcomed back to the Congress but he will be given a red-carpet welcome.

“Most welcome, with red carpet, not only welcome,” Pala told Northeast Live amid a strong buzz that the former Meghalaya Congress leader might go back to the party from TMC.

Pala, however, said that he does not believe that Sangma will return to the party without a strong reason.

Asked if Sangma made a blunder by leaving Congress and joining BJP, Pala said, “To me maybe it can be considered like that but he may feel differently, TMC has done very well in Bengal but maybe the people of Meghalaya did not buy into their ideology or maybe because it was the first time they competed they could not get the desired result.”

Pala asserted that he did not have any personal problems with Mukul Sangma.

Pala further said that he did not believe that Mukul Sangma’s career is on the verge of extinction. He said, “Mukul is a very confident person, he was a Chief Minister for 8 years, he is not that old also, so I don’t believe that his career is on its last leg. He just needs to evolve with time.”

Pala reserved some praise for TMC saying that they did well in the state considering it was their first time.

He said, “They got five MLAs during the first attempt, same number as us, even compared to BJP who has had a presence in the state for quite sometime.”

Mukul Sangma served as the 11th Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 2010 to 2018 as a Congress politician. He joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in November 2021.
