Mawsynram MLA Suin to demand civil sub division in Mawsynram

Suin said creation of a civil sub division would bring administration closer to the people.

Highlighting the problems faced by the people in the border region of Mawsynram, MLA Ollan Singh Suin said that he will meet Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K.Sangma early next year to demand the setting up of a civil sub division in Mawsynram C&RD block.

Speaking to reporters Suin said, “Mawsynram is home to a large variety of communities. It is far from Shillong, almost 100 km off.

Mawsynram block is bordering Bangladesh and the people residing near the border areas are facing severe difficulties coming to Shillong for a small thing. So if the government grants us permission to set up a civil sub division it would bring administration closer to the people. When the new year comes I will meet with the Chief Minister to discuss the matter in detail.”

Suin added, “There has been a long-standing demand for setting up a civil sub division in the Mawsynram C&RD block. Mawsynram C&RD block is the oldest block in Meghalaya, formed way back in 1962. So I have raised a question in the assembly, I have also discussed the matter with my senior leaders to harness the dream of forming a full-fledged civil subdivision in Mawsynram.”

A sub division is an administrative division of a district in India for the purpose of revenue administration.

Meghalaya is divided into 9 Sub-Divisions and is covered by 46 Community and Rural Development Blocks. It has been done so that benefit projects reach even the most remote areas.
