Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today cautioned political leaders who are criticizing the Meghalaya government for allocating 1.4 acres of additional land for the relocation of Harijan Colony not to politicize the issue unnecessarily.

Tynsong asked them not to mislead people without knowing the ground realities and said that anyone who needs clarification on the issue can meet with him and he will explain everything to them.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Tynsong said, “Those leaders who are criticizing the decision taken by the government are playing politics. It is the political game that they play without knowing the reality, without even knowing the actual number of residents of that place.”

“When we say we need additional land of 1.4 acres, it does not mean that this land will be transferred to these people, it will be handed over to Shillong Municipal Board. Therefore, I want to say that do not play politics unnecessarily. If you need clarification, come and meet me, I will explaint to you everything,” he added.

Apart from the existing 2.14 acres of land allocated for relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong to European Ward area, the Meghalaya government has decided to allocate additional 1.4 acres of land for the relocation process.

Earlie, this week, the government also held a crucial round of meet with the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) over the relocation of these families.

The government has given the HPC time till January second week to resolve all the issues and areas of discussion.

Both parties will once again meet on the second week of January.
