The Union Road Transport and Highways ministry has sanctioned Rs 625 crore for the construction of an Intermediate Lane Road from Tato to Monigong section of National Highway-913, also known as the Frontier Highway.
The move is expected to give a further boost to the road infrastructure in the frontier state bordering China. The road falls in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shiyomi district.
Not only in terms of easing the movement of security forces to the Indo-China border area, the Frontier Highway is expected to bring massive transformation by well connecting the region with the rest of the region as well as the nation.
Nitin Gadkari in a post on X shared details of the development and said, “In Arunachal Pradesh, an allocation of ₹625.61 Crores has been sanctioned for the construction of an Intermediate Lane Road with Hard Shoulders, spanning 53.04 kilometers from the Tato to Monigong section of National Highway-913, also known as the Frontier Highway.
This strategically significant road will ensure all-weather connectivity to the Indo-China Border, fostering socio-economic development in the border regions of Arunachal Pradesh.”
Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker PD Sona has welcomed the Centre’s decision to give more impetus to the strategic project.
Speaking to Northeast Live over the phone, PD Sona said, “We are very happy and thankful to the Prime Minister. We are thankful to the Chief Minister also for pursuing the matter with the Government of India for fast sanctioning of this road. It will bring in lot of economic changes in the area. Since it is a border area, it is definitely going to help the army personnel and other border guarding forces. At the same time, it is going to immensely benefit the local populace. Because once we have a beautiful good road all the other things will fall in place. So the intermediate road will be much broader than the existing one and obviously with much better quality. Once we get a good quality road rest everything will follow in terms of development, ease of movement and when we talk about tourism. We are very hopeful, that once the road is completed Manigong and all other villages will immensely benefit from this project.”
The Frontier Highway will cover a total of 1748 km distance. The two-lane road will run very close to the international border at several positions of the route. It will start at Bomdila in Western Arunachal Pradesh and run across its length to end in Vijaynagar in the Eastern side. It will pass through several strategic points on the Tibet border including Nafra, Huri and Monigaon. Jido and Chenquenty points on the China border will also be on the route while Vijaynagar is on the Myanmar Border.
