The former CM and SDF Chief made the statement after meeting Governor Lakshman Acharya at the Raj Bhavan today

Former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today launched a scathing attack against the Prem Singh Tamang-led SKM government and accused it of shielding those behind the death of student leader Padam Gurung.

The former 5-time Sikkim CM who is the chief of leading opposition party in Sikkim, the SDF (Sikkim Democratic Front) said that it was a clear case of murder, which the high level one-man judicial commission led by former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court NK Jain had termed as an accidental death.

Casting serious doubts over the government’s handling of the case, the former Chief Minister expressed concern stating that at present there is no law and order in the state.

He said, “Everyone knows that Padam Gurung has been murdered, but till now the killer is yet to be apprehended, because the government is shielding, that’s why. At present there is no law and order in Sikkim. There is chaos in the state, there is political terrorism prevailing in the state. In present context, there is no government and governance at all in Sikkim. This is not a good sign at all.”

The SDF chief made this statement after meeting Lakshman Acharya at the Raj Bhavan. Chamling today handed over a memorandum to the Governor apprising him about the law and order situation, in the backdrop of his party workers allegedly attacked by SKM workers on December 4.

Pawan Chamling alleged that the police have not registered single FIR pertaining to over 1000 cases of such attack on SDF workers since the SKM came to power.

He stated, “Since the formation of the SKM government, in the last 4.5 years, there are over such incidents (attack on SDF workers) which have taken place. From our party side we have informed the DGP, concerned SPs, filed FIRs in respective police stations but till now the police have not registered a single FIR, no perpetrator has been arrested so far. This clear exposes the fact that the government is behind such incidents, the ruling party is involved in it. The ruling party hires hooligans from outside the state and have been terrifying the people of Sikkim, they are being assaulted, there is violence and killings happening.”
