The strategically important Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang road has been hit by 30 landslides.

As a result of which surface communication is largely affected in West Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh and also the movement of troops towards the sensitive Indo – China international border has also been largely affected.

One army barrack and two culverts have also been washed away in the landslide which was triggered by a cloud burst followed by heavy rains on Thursday evening at Senka in West Kameng district. Although, no casualty was reported from the army camp .

Meanwhile, due to the sensitive nature of road communication, the West Kameng district administration has ordered closure of the road since this morning until further notice.

Three units of BRTF and army troops from the Tenga based 5 Mountain Division have been pressed into service to restore the important road. However, inclement weather accompanied by incessant has severely affected the restoration work.

The only respite is that the forces have been able to restore communication through the Orang – Kalakaktang – Shergaon – Rupa – Tenga road through which only light vehicles are being allowed since today morning.

Earlier, close to 200 vehicles were left stranded near Potin on their way to Lower Subansiri district and other adjoining districts like Kamle. The road was blocked due to heavy downpour which made it fragile and swampy.

The vehicles were stranded at around 7 am and it took nearly 3 hours to restore the road. Even light vehicles were not allowed to pass through during the heavy downpour.
