In the biggest-ever bank robbery in Manipur’s history, masked gunmen looted Rs 18.85 crore from the Punjab National Bank (PNB) Ukhrul branch on Thursday evening in 10 minutes.
At around 5.40 pm yesterday evening, 8-10 unidentified masked men carrying sophisticated weapons, dressed in camouflage stormed into the bank, forcing the security personnel guarding the main gate of the Bank out of their way. They tied the staff up with ropes and locked them inside the toilet.
At gunpoint, they forced the bank’s manager to open the vault, and robbed Rs. 18.85 crore in just 10 minutes.
The bank is located at in Viewland-I, in the heart of Ukhrul Town.
Security has been beefed up in and around the surrounding areas and a massive manhunt launched to arrest the culprits, said Police.
Till this morning, no one has claimed responsibility nor any arrests made.
