A delegation of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) led by its President Brithen Sangma handed over the memorandum

Employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma seeking that their salaries which has been pending for more than 2 years be released soon.

A delegation of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) led by its President Brithen Sangma handed over the memorandum in support of the demand.

Speaking to Northeast Live, Brithen Sangma, president of the NGEA said, “Our main demand is only our salary, because we are not getting our salary regularly. Our salary has been pending for 30 months. We are facing serious problems due to this. The year is also ending and we are finding hard to maintain our families, the festive season is also coming.

Our authorities have been giving us assurances to regularise our salary, however our salary is still pending. There are 1593 employees in GHADC.”

Earlier, on October 30, the non-gazetted employees of the GHADC went on a 3-day sit-in demonstration over the non-payment of salaries. GHADC CEM, Albinush Marak had met the protesting employees and promised them that two months’ salary would be paid within the same week. But that promise is yet to be fulfilled.
