In a first, a Karbi film ‘Mirbeen’ will be screened at IFFI Goa

In a proud moment for Assam and particularly for the Karbi people of the state, ‘Mirbeen’, a Karbi film, will be screened at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. This is the first time ever that a Karbi film will be screened at the prestigious IFFI.

The film directed by well known filmmaker from Assam, Mridul Gupta and produced by Dhaniram Tisso, will be screened on November 25 in the Indian Panorama section. Mirbeen is the only feature film from Northeast to be screened at the festival.

The film is about life amid violence, despair and pain. The lead roles have been played by Malin Tisopi and Rajib Kro. The cast also includes Bipul Terang and Rengka Ingtipi.

The film’s story and script is done by Manimala Das, the director of photography is Pradip Doimari and music is by popular singer and music composer Tarali Sharma.

Other than Mirbeen, the films from Northeast which would be screened in the non-feature film segment are – ‘Andro Dreams’ (Manipuri) by Meena Longjam, ‘Baruar Xongxar’ (Assamese) by Utpal Borpujari, ‘Kathabor’ (Assamese) by Keshar Jyoti Das, ‘Lachit’ (The Warrior) (Assamese) by Parthasarathi Mahanta, ‘Last Meet’ (Manipuri) by Waribam Dorendra Singh and ‘Mau: The Spirit Dreams Of Cheraw’ (Mizo) by Shilpika Bordoloi.

The 54th edition of IFFI started with a grand opening at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor Stadium, Goa on Nov 20.

Over 270 films – national and international, will be screened at the festival. Popular Hollywood actor Michael Douglas will receive the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival.
