The All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has threatened to resume agitations from November 27 in various hill districts, if the Government of Manipur fails to fully restore internet services in areas which have remained peaceful over the past few months and declare the results for the interview held in September 2021 for the appointment of 190 Assistant Professors for state government colleges.
Referring to the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between ANSAM and the Government of Manipur on October 26, 2023, and the government’s assurances therein, ANSAM in a press communiqué questioned the Government for not fulfilling their promises by not declaring the result for the Assistant Professors recruitment and partial internet restoration only in District headquarters of Senapati, Tamenlong, Chandel and Ukhrul districts.
ANSAM said that the Director of Higher Education’s urgent letter on November 25, 2021 categorically clarified that approval for results declaration was sought from the Department of Personnel. However, it has been more than 2 years since then, but the results are still withheld “depriving the candidates of their fundamental rights and defeating their strong and vibrant aspirations”, the ANSAM statement said.
The student body stated that on November 9, it had lifted its economic blockade after receiving assurances from Minister Awangbow Newmai, as the convener of Naga Legislature Forum and representative of the State Government. However, the assured deadline of 4 to 5 days from that day has passed and the Government and the Department concerned are mum on the issue.
The association has now decided to resume agitation on November 27 if the demands are not met.
ANSAM said that the State Government will be held responsible for any unwanted incidents during the course of their agitation.
