Tripura CM Saha inaugurates 11-day Natya Utshav in Agartala

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated the state-level Natya Utshav in Agartala, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering cultural development.

Organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs department, Government of Tripura, the 11-day festival, hosted at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, features the participation of 21 drama troupes from various parts of the state.

In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the societal reflections within drama, emphasizing its importance as a source of subjects for dramatists.

Dr. Saha acknowledged the pivotal role of drama in shaping and guiding society, urging dramatists and directors to channel their efforts towards creating awareness and addressing societal issues.

He encouraged dramatists to produce awareness dramas for focus on preventing violence, corruption, and drug abuse, citing them as significant challenges faced by society.

The Chief Minister expressed the view that performing on stage poses unique challenges compared to cinema, emphasizing the live nature of stage performances without the luxury of retakes. He acknowledged the tough demands of acting in live productions.

Furthermore, Dr. Saha voiced concerns about the potential threat of extinction faced by drama due to the rise of various other entertainment and communication forms. To counter this, the government is actively involved in promoting artists, directors, and individuals associated with stage drama to ensure the preservation of this impactful medium.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need to keep the tradition of stage drama alive amidst evolving entertainment landscapes.
