Heartbreak for India: Men in Blue lose to Australia in Cricket World Cup final

This is the 6th World Cup win for Australia.

Its a heartbreak for India at Ahmedabad, after an unbeaten streak in the group stage and the semi final, India went down to Australia in the mega final clash tonight. Chasing a target of 241, Australia lost three early wickets but soon recovered as Travis Head scored a magnificent century and was ably supported by Marnus Labuschangne.

Head anchored the mighty Aussies to victory with a knock of 137 runs in just 120 balls, which was decorated with 15 fours and 4 sixes. At the other end Marnus Labuschange patiently handled the situation and managed to score an unbeaten 58 runs in 110 balls.

Mohammed Shami gave the first breakthrough after he got Australian opener David Warner caught by Virat Kohli for just 7 runs with the scoreboard at 16-1 in 1.1 over. Known to be an exposive batsman Mitchell Marsh looked dangerous after he hit a four and a six in his 15-run knock, but was caught behind by wicketkeeper KL Rahul from a swinger by Jasprit Bumrah. Steven Smith too could not make a mark and was back to the pavillion by scoring only 4 runs.

Prior to this Team India could only pile up 240 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. Rohit Sharma gave an explosive start to the Men in Blue by scoring 47 runs of 31 balls, but his opening partner Shubhman Gill was out for only 4 runs. With 76 runs on the board, both the openers were back at the pavillion before Virat Kohli could stabilize the situation. Kohli scored 54 in 63 balls. KL Rahul once again showcased his temparament and skill with his 66 run knock in 107 balls.

Mitchell Starc scalped 3 wickets, while Jose Hazlewood and Pat Cummins got rid of 2 Indian batters each. Glen Maxwell and Adam Zampa got 1 wicket each.

This is the 6th World Cup win for Australia. Prior to this Australia had become the Champions in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015.
