Amidst rumors of alleged dissent within the National People’s Party (NPP) over the Lok Sabha candidate for the Shillong seat, party national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that there is no unhappiness within the party over the ticket issue.
Talking to media regarding the rumors, CM Conrad Sangma said, “I would not call it unhappiness, I would rather describe it as people’s emotional attachment to particular things, such as their leaders or the person they support. There is nothing wrong in it, and we respect their feelings and support them.”
“NPP has grown in past many years and as the party grows, more people shows up with different opinions, concerns and ideas. As a democratic party, it is our responsibility to listen to everyone, to hold discussions, to respect people’s opinions and dissent and allow healthy and constructive discussions. But at the end of the day, the party will do what is in the best interest of the state and the party. So, we expect that while everyone will share their opinions, they will also adhere to the party’s decisions, which will be made in a democratic manner and in the best interests of the state,” said CM Sangma.
CM Conrad Sangma also said that it was a positive sign for the party to have multiple contenders as it showed that a lot of people are keen on contesting on NPP ticket.
It may be mentioend that the names of TMC leader George B Lyngdoh, Mawhati legislator Dasakhiat Lamare and former Mawsynram MLA Himalaya Shangpliang are doing rounds as contenders for the NPP ticket.
