AL Hek speaking to Northeast Live informed that 3 leaders of the BJP are aspiring to contest from the Shillong LS seat
The Meghalaya BJP is gearing up from all fronts ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha, be it selection of candidates or consolidating the party base. Going beyond the narrative of being tagged as an ‘anti-Christian’ party, the BJP is getting war ready for successfully contesting the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
Former Meghalaya BJP Chief and presently a minister in the Conrad Sangma cabinet, AL Hek is one of the aspiring candidates for the prestigious Shillong seat. In fact reports suggest that he is among the top contenders for the party ticket in Shillong. Hek has informed that there are 2 other party leaders who desire to contest the parliamentary elections from the same seat.
Speaking to Northeast Live, AL Hek without divulging much said, “I don’t know the other names, including my name there are 3 candidates. I don’t know who are the other two names. So, we will see among the 3 names, who will be the best choice for contesting the Lok Sabha election from the Shillong parliamentary constituency. My name is among the 3.”
Hek feels that remaining intact is paramount for ensuring best results for the party, despite the fact that whoever amongst the 3 is chosen to contest the polls.
He said, “Among the 3 names, whoever’s name is chosen, we have to work hard to ensure winning of this coming Lok Sabha election.”
AL Hek also informed that the doors of the BJP are open for any leader who wants to come onboard. The BJP leader was responding to a query on whether the BJP was in touch with TMC leaders in the state especially with former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who is reportedly mulling to jump ship.
He said, “Our doors are not only open for AITC, but our gate is open for all political parties. If he want to join, he can join anytime, for me I welcome him anytime. But I have not met him, not discussed anything. How can I say he is joining or not joining. But for us the door is open for anybody who wants to come to BJP.”
Hek was asked if Mukul Sangma had put forward conditions to join the BJP.
In his response the BJP leader said, “It is too far away to talk about conditions.”
