The demonstration aimed to bring attention to these critical issues and urge the central government to address them

The members of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), Western Ri Bhoi, staged a protest at Patharkhmah Jirang in Ri Bhoi district, demanding the inclusion of the Khasi Language in the Eighth Schedule and the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

Led by General Secretary Sanly Nongrum, the protest aimed to bring attention to these critical issues and urge the central government to address them.

The HANM members displayed banners and flags during their protest, showing unwavering support for the central organization’s demands.

These demands mirror the sentiments expressed by the central body of the organization during their recent demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.

The organisation puts up banners and flags across different parts of the region, underlining the significance of adding the Khasi Language to the Eighth Schedule and implementing the Inner Line Permit. These measures are viewed as essential steps to combat illegal influx into the state of Meghalaya.

The protesters called on the central government to take their demands seriously, highlighting the importance of preserving the cultural and linguistic identity of the Khasi people and protecting the integrity of the state. The movement seeks to ensure that the Khasi Language is officially recognized and that the Inner Line Permit is enforced to regulate the entry of outsiders into Meghalaya.
