Padam Gurung death case: Justice NK Jain submits judicial inquiry report to CM Tamang

The judicial inquiry into the death case of late Padam Gurung started on June 26

Former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Justice Narendra Kumar Jain on Wednesday submitted the judicial inquiry report into the death of student leader Padam Gurung.

The report was submitted to Sikkim Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, at his official residence in Mintokgang.

The report includes the findings of the unnatural death of Padam Gurung, who served as the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Sikkim Government College, Kamrang, located in the Namchi District of Sikkim.

Sikkim Chief Secretary V.B Pathak, and Secretary, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Suraj Chettri were also present.

The State Government had established a one-man Commission, with Justice Narendra Kumar Jain at its helm, to conduct a comprehensive judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of the student leader, Padam Gurung.

Throughout the course of the investigation, the Commission diligently recorded statements from a total of 100 witnesses, and they gathered a substantial corpus of evidence, amounting to 167 documents.

The judicial inquiry into the death case of the late Padam Gurung started on June 26.

It is to be mentioned that Padam Gurung was found dead on June 28, 2023, in the Kazitar area of Namchi, Sikkim.

Gurung was untraceable since June 27 night after he was reportedly washed away following heavy rainfall. His body was recovered from a drain the next morning.
