Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has exuded confidence that under the guidance of the Supreme Court, the NRC process will be completed in a fair and transparent manner as has been the case so far.
Allaying fears of those who missed out from the list, Sonowal said this is just a draft NRC and the process will be completed in the coming days under the guidance of the Supreme Court.
On a day when the BJP led governments at the Centre and in Assam have drawn a lot of flak from the opposition for allegedly coming out with a motivated list, Sonowal tried to reach out to the political parties to cooperate in the completion of the NRC process.
He added that the people of Assam have helped a lot to ensure that the entire process is executed peacefully and it has been a very transparent and unbiased exercise. He also said that the government will not let any miscreant trying to derail peace in the state at any cost.
Meanwhile, NEDA Convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma also reacted to the publication of the final draft NRC and said that there is no need for any panic for those whose names are not in the list.
Sharma said that care would be taken to ensure that every genuine Indian citizen eventually makes it to the citizens register.
