Nambie Jessica Marak from Meghalaya has made it to the top 12 in season 8 of the MasterChef India, the most prestigious cooking reality show.
Nambie Jessica Marak who also runs “Eat Your Kappa,” a YouTube channel on Northeastern food and culture, is now a raving dinner table topic, with her dishes that comprise unique flavours of Meghalaya and much else.
Kappa is a popular Garo dish, known for its unique flavours, where meat and vegetables are cooked with extracts of bamboo and tapioca.
Nambie Jessica Marak hails from Shillong. After completing her schooling, she moved to Chennai for a job and further education.
She started her YouTube channel Eat Your Kappa, in 2016, with an aim to break the stereotypes surrounding Northeastern cuisine and promoting Garo food on a national level.
Marak shoots all her videos in Upper Rangsa, a village tucked away in the forests of Meghalaya’s West Khasi hills.
Nambie’s journey underscores her dedication to preserving and celebrating Meghalaya’s rich culinary heritage.
MasterChef Season 8 was premiered on October 16 on Sony TV. The judges this season are chefs Ranveer Brar, Vikas Khanna and Pooja Dhingra aka known as The Dessert Queen.
