Sikkim CM PS Tamang said that his government is committed to stand in solidarity with those who have been affected by the calamity

Left devastated by the recent floods, North Sikkim still remains cut off with roads and bridges washed away. But braving all odds, troops of Indian Army along with Border Roads Organization and assistance of civil administration and locals are undertaking operations at a massive scale to reconnect North Sikkim.

As an immediate relief to restore connectivity up to Chungthang through an alternate route, Mangan- Sanklang- Theng – Chungthang, troops of Trishakti Corps are undertaking construction of Bailey Bridge at Mangan-Sanklang Crossing, 200 metres upstream of where a bamboo bridge and Zip line was constructed earlier.

As per reports, the width of the river has increased to 600 feet and water running along two channels with a 160 feet island in between. Therefore the joint team came up with a decision to construct two separate bridges.

The Army has finished construction of the 150-foot-long first bridge and the second bridge is likely to be completed by 27th Oct.

Earlier today Sikkim Chief Minister made an aerial survey of Chungthang where the Teesta Stage III dam collapsed owing to glacial lake outburst. The Sikkim Chief Minister also interacted with the affected people.

Taking to X, the Prem Singh Tamang posted, “Upon my arrival in Chungthang, a region deeply affected by the calamity that struck our beloved state, I conducted visits to the areas impacted by the disaster.
I will be personally engaging with the victims of the flash floods and facilitating the distribution of relief compensation to both individuals and families in need.

Our government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting those who have been affected by this tragic event.”

The Chief Minister distributed relief compensation cheques from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the people who have been worst hit by the disaster.

During his interaction with the affected individuals, he consoled them for their losses and assured them that the Government will do everything in its capacity to rehabilitate them and help them rebuild their lives and livelihood.

The individuals whose houses were damaged were provided a cheque of Rs.1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh) each as an immediate relief. Likewise, the people living on rent were provided a relief of Rs. 20,000/- each. Similarly, the Chief Minister also handed over the relief amount of Rs. 10,000/- each to students who lost their books and essentials in the flood.
