Mondal said that the state has identified around four power projects for a pump storage scheme with a total capacity of 3100 megawatts

After the state faced acute shortage of power over the past several months, Meghalaya government is taking steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state.

Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal told Northeast Live that the state is preparing and will try to prevent load-shedding in the future.

Stating that the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is helping the state government, the power minister said that the state government is working with NTPC to study some power projects and has identified around four power projects for a pump storage scheme with a total capacity of 3100 megawatts.

“NTPC is helping us because we are working with them to study some power projects, and we have identified around four power projects that can be used for pump storage schemes, and our total capacity will be around 301 megawatts,” Mondal said.

Mondal added that the feasibility report will be submitted by December this year.

He further added that the only problem the state is facing is funding, for which the state government has approached the center for financial assistance.
