The social welfare department, along with SAFF, has decided that they will come up with a tentative calendar of activities starting on December 5
The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) called on Meghalaya Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh and pledged support to the government in its war on drugs.
Lyngdoh, speaking to the media, informed that various religious institutions wanted to actively support the efforts of the government of Meghalaya to contain and sensitise people, especially about the dangers that await them if they are involved in drug menaces.
The social welfare department, along with SAFF, has decided that they will come up with a tentative calendar of activities starting on December 5.
Responding to a query on the involvement of religious leaders in the fight against drugs, Lyngdoh said, “It is very important and significant, as the government alone will not be in a position to fully tackle this problem. It has to be spoken about within the followers of the church, the mandirs (temples), masjids (mosques), and congregations.”
SAFF member Naba Bhattacharjee, speaking after submitting a letter to the Social Welfare Minister, said that SAFF, in a moral and spiritual way, wants to take up the issue of drugs, which is a social evil plaguing the state.
Bhattacharjee added that SAFF would like to take up some programmes and assist the government in containing drug abuse in Meghalaya.
