Tripura becomes first Indian state to have 100% digital payment system in PRIs

First Published: 3rd October, 2023 19:40 IST

Now all panchayats across the state will be required to exclusively use digital payments for all development projects and revenue collection.

In a remarkable leap towards digital transformation and eGovernance, Tripura made history today by becoming the first Indian state to achieve 100% digital transaction compliance in its Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs).

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made this historic announcement during a special event held at the Panchayat Raj Training Institute in AD Nagat, West Tripura district.

Under this ground breaking initiative, all panchayats across the state will be required to exclusively use digital payments for all development projects and revenue collection.

This move aims not only to enhance transparency and reduce corruption but also to drive sustainable socio-economic development in rural areas, ensuring that every citizen, even the most vulnerable, can access life’s basic necessities, emphasized the Chief Minister.

Tripura has also gained national recognition for successfully implementing the UPI transaction system in all Gram Panchayats and Village Committees, positioning it as one of the leading states in this regard.

Currently, Tripura’s Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) conduct digital payments through the PFMS-eGram Swaraj interface, with all PRIs audited online, achieving a 100% audit rate since the fiscal year 2020-21.

This achievement represents a significant milestone in the journey towards e-governance, with 100% PFMS (Public Financial Management System) onboarding now completed in all Gram Panchayats and Village Committees across Tripura.

On the day the state-level award ceremony for the National Panchayat Award and PMAY(G) recognition for outstanding performances of Districts, Blocks, and GPIVCs was also held in which MLA Mina Rani Sarkar and Chief Secretary JK Sinha, along with other senior officials and panchayat members and secretaries, were present.
