Domestic consumers to pay 20 paise per unit. Consumers consuming over 500 units would have to pay 99 paise per unit and commercial consumers will have to shell out 59

In a relief for the electricity consumers of Assam, the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has revised its tariff hike notice issued on Friday and lowered the hike to 20 paise per unit for domestic category consumers to be paid for consumption of 300 to 500 units a month. The new rates have come into effect from October 1.

Consumers consuming over 500 units would have to pay 99 paise per unit and commercial consumers will have to shell out 59 paise per unit, the new revised notice said.

The hike in tariff is for Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) charges.

APDCL had drawn a lot of flak from consumers for the steep increase in rates and acting promptly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that there would be no increase in payments for domestic consumers consuming upto 300 units a month.

The notice issued on Friday said that domestic consumers would have to pay 30 paise per unit upto 300 units, those consuming 300-500 units a month would have to pay 50 paise per unit and those consuming above 500 units (including commercial consumers) would have to pay Rs 1.29 per unit.
