On Sunday, the Government of Manipur extended the ban on mobile internet services for another 5 days till October 6

Amid the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur, the schools in the state will remain closed till October 5.

According to a release from the Directorate of Education, “All State Government, State Government Aided/Private Unaided Schools will remain closed until October 5th.”

On Sunday, the Government of Manipur extended the ban on mobile internet services for another 5 days until October 6.

Earlier today, normal life came to a standstill in Churachandpur district owing to an indefinite shutdown with effect from today. Pressure groups have called for the shutdown in protest against the arrest of four people in connection with the missing students who were found dead.

Streets in the district headquarters wore a deserted look as shops, market places, and all forms of commercial activities came to a grinding halt.

Apart from government offices, all schools and other educational institutes were also shut down.
Protests have erupted in the district after Chief Minister N Biren Singh last evening informed the media about the arrests of four people in connection with the death of two students who were minors, while briefing the media in Imphal.

CBI who had registered two cases on August 23 at the request of the Manipur government and took over the investigation of these cases registered by the Manipur Police at the Imphal Police Station and Lamphel Police Station, confirmed the four arrests today.

On September 25, pictures went viral on social media showing the two students who had been missing since July 6, dead. The pictures went viral after the Manipur government lifted the internet ban on September 23.
