Assam govt to ban sale of 250 ML water bottles from tomorrow

CM Sarma said that the industries have been given a year’s time to upgrade their equipment and the sale of 500-liter water bottles will be banned from October 2, 2024
Assam government has decided not to implement its ban on 500-ML packaged drinking water bottles for the time being and instead put a ban on the sale of 250 ml water bottles the state from tomorrow.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the decision to not ban 500 ML water bottles immediately was taken after considering the requests from several local packaged drinking water manufacturers, who said they need one year of time to upgrade their machinery for manufacturing water bottles of 1 litre and above, as currently they are calibrated to manufacture water bottles of 500 ML or less.
Chief Minister Sarma went on to add that the industries have been given a year’s time to upgrade their equipment and that the sale of 500-liter water bottles will be banned in the state from October 2, 2024.
He added that the state government will bear 10% of the expenses to upgrade the machinery for manufacturing water bottles of 1 litre.
