Babar Azam was fined with Rs 570 (INR) (2000 PKR) for two traffic violations

Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, has been under scrutiny recently after a report emerged about him receiving a fine from traffic authorities in Lahore’s Gulberg area on September 17. According to Geo News, Babar was fined approximately Rs 570 (Indian Rupee) (2,000 Pakistan Rupee) for two violations: driving without a valid driver’s license and a lane violation.

The incident occurred when Babar was stopped for a lane violation, but during the interaction with the police, it was revealed that he did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Earlier, Babar Azam faced criticism for his team’s failure to qualify for the Asia Cup final earlier in the month. Pakistan suffered defeats to India and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage, leading to their exit from the tournament. India went on to win the Asia Cup for the 8th time. Reports had circulated about a verbal spat between Babar and star pacer Shaheen Afridi, but Shaheen later dismissed the rumours by sharing a picture with Babar, referring to him as “family.”

In a development related to the upcoming ODI World Cup, members of the Pakistan cricket team were issued Indian visas on Monday, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This came shortly after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed concerns to the ICC regarding the delay in the national team’s travel to Hyderabad. The visa clearance came less than 48 hours before Pakistan’s scheduled departure to India on September 27. Their first warm-up match against New Zealand in Hyderabad is set for September 29. An ICC spokesperson stated, “Visas have been issued to Pakistan.”

However, there remained some confusion within the Pakistan camp regarding the visa grant. PCB spokesperson Umar Farooq mentioned, “We have not received a call from the Indian High Commission yet regarding visa clearance, and a member of our team is stationed there.”

The delay in visa issuance led to the cancellation of Pakistan’s two-day team bonding session in Dubai, impacting their preparation for the 50-over World Cup. The Babar Azam-led team is scheduled to play two warm-up games and two World Cup matches in Hyderabad, starting with a practice fixture against New Zealand.
