Manipur: Pics of 2 missing teens dead goes viral; Govt assures swift action

The Manipur Government has vowed strong action after pictures surfaced on social media showing 2 students Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi dead in an unknown location. The Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement to announce this, when pictures showing the two dead teens went viral after the Manipur Government lifted the internet ban on September 23.
The governement in the statement said, “It may be noted that this case has already been handed over to the CBI as per the wishes of the people of the state. State police, in collaboration with the central security agencies, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearence and to identify the perpetrators who murdered the students.”
This is one of the 11 cases related to violence against women being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CMO said that security forces have started search operations to nab the perpetrators.
The N Biren Singh government has also assured that swift and decisive action will be taken to ensure that justice prevails.
In one of the photos, the two friends are seen sitting next to each other, with armed men in the background. In another photo, their bodies are seen lying near a rock.
Both, Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit of Imphal West went missing on July 6 after they left home for a coaching centre at Keishampat.
Reports said that they were last seen in CCTV footages showing the two riding towards Nambol. In the follow up investigation, police also reportedly received information about some civilians spotting them heading towards Khoupum through Lamdan.
