The high court has directed the state government to submit an affidavit giving details of the matter within a month

The Gauhati High Court has reprimanded the Assam government for failing to provide details of formalin contamination in imported fish and the remedial steps taken on the matter.

The high court has directed the state government to submit an affidavit giving details of the matter within a month.

However, the state government sought additional time which the high court denied.

The court asked the authorities concerned why they had failed to submit the report of formalin contamination in imported fish even after two instructions from the bench.

Formalin contamination in imported fish grabbed headlines after research findings from Nagaon College revealed that imported fish in Assam contain formaldehyde, arsenic, and cadmium which are toxic to consumers.
