Tipra Motha calls for Tripura bandh on Sept 30 for ‘Greater Tipraland’

First Published: 23rd September, 2023 14:03 IST

The decision comes days after Debbarma and some other leaders of the party met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss their demand for 'Greater Tipraland'. "

Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma today informed that the party has called for a dawn to dusk bandh in the state on September 30 in support of its key demands.

“Irked by the delay in fulfilling its demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’, Tipra Motha has called for a day-long Tripura bandh in order to press the Centre for its demand”, said Debbarma.

Debbarma informed that a 12-hour bandh will be observed in all Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas of the state.

The decision comes days after Deb Barma and some other leaders of the party met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss its demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’. “

On Friday, Debbarma had held a meeting at the TTAADC headquarters in Khumulwng with Motha MLAs, including Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma, and other senior leaders. They discussed their future strategy and emphasized the need for a united front.

“We have decided to organize a one day bandh-call. The date and location will be announced by tomorrow. Our demand is for TIPRASA, for the betterment of all communities in Tripura. We believe that when we speak with one voice, the central government will take our concerns seriously,” Pradyot Debbarma said yesterday after the meeting.

He highlighted the importance of developing the Tiprasa community to ensure the overall development of Tripura. Debbarma expressed disappointment that promises made by the BJP in their manifesto regarding indigenous community development had not been fulfilled. He attributed this partly to the lack of unity among tribal leaders during their visits to Delhi.

“You cannot develop Tripura if you don’t develop Tiprasa, the manifesto given by BJP and promised by them was not even fulfilled yet”, added Pradyot Debbarma.

While discussions with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi were deemed positive, Debbarma stressed the necessity of maintaining pressure to ensure that the government fulfils their constitutional rights.
