An alarming situation unfolded on IndiGo flight number 6E457 flying from Guwahati to Agartala on Thursday, after an unruly passenger allegedly attempted to open the emergency exit door mid-flight, breaching flight safety protocols and giving the scare of their lives to everyone on board the flight.

However, the fellow passengers were prompt enough to quickly intervene, restraining the individual. Flight staff too quickly took control of the passenger and ensured the flight safely landed at Agartala MBB airport.

The passenger has been identified as Bishwajit Debnath.

An airport official on the condition of anonymity said that just before landing, the flight’s captain had alerted ground staff about the unruly passenger’s actions, requesting the presence of CISF personnel at the airport for the passenger to be taken into custody.

He added that due to this incident, the flight had to circle in the air for an additional round, causing a minor delay in landing.

IndiGo’s airport ground staff promptly stepped in, caught hold of Debnath and handed him over to the CISF. He was later arrested by the police.

A police complaint has been lodged against Biswajit Debnath, and an investigation is underway.
