The Minister highlighted the government's commitment to the socio-economic development of indigenous communities in the state
Taking a tacit dig at Opposition TIPRA Motha without explicitly naming the party and its Tipraland agenda, Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today emphasized that the state’s partition is not a solution for the development of the tribal population.
The Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to the socio-economic development of indigenous communities and disclosed that the budget for the current fiscal year has allocated Rs 30 crore under the Chief Minister Tribal Development Mission (CMTDM).
Minister Chowdhury said that in today’s cabinet meeting, it was decided to speed up infrastructure development in tribal areas, including the supply of drinking water, roads, electricity, and educational opportunities.
He said that the Tribal Welfare Department of Tripura will serve as the nodal agency for these initiatives, aligning with the mission’s spirit.
The Minister also provided updates on the commencement of international flights from Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya (MBB) airport and the planned rail connectivity between Tripura and Bangladesh.
He said that both these connections are in the advanced phases of development and are expected to become operational in the upcoming months because both the state and Central government consider them as essential and high priorities.
