The Assam CM firmly believes that the spirit of oneness and brotherhood will be restored within a couple of months

The Center is making all-out efforts to bring permanent peace in conflict affected Manipur. If everything falls in place, it is expected that the situation will completely change within 2-3 months and the spirit of oneness will return once again.

This is what Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who is also the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor conveyed today.

According to Sarma, the situation is under control now.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s response on Manipur came during a press briefing in Madhya Pradesh, where he has been engaged in campaigning for the BJP as a star campaigner for the impending assembly elections.

Speaking on the issue, Himanta Biswa Sarma who has played the role of a ‘troubleshooter’ in resolving conflicts in Assam, highlighted the fact that the region has witnessed conflicts since decades owing to reasons which are unique in different aspects.

Sarma said, “There were problems in Manipur. The Northeast is a bit unique, the issues are different. The region has been battling conflicts since decades. But the situation is under control. The situation is improving gradually. We feel that within 2-3 months the sense of brotherhood and unity will prevail once again.”

Besides, Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out that Manipur has a history of such unwanted situations because of different factors.

He stated, “. There is a history of this unwarranted situation since there are land problems, issues pertaining to Constitutional provisions, issues which are linked to Myanmar, which are complicated.”

However, Sarma also lauded the role of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in his attempt to ensure that peace prevails in Manipur. He said, “But Union Home Minister Amit Shah have managed to handle the state of affairs in the desired manner. Today I feel that the situation will only improve from this point and there is no possibility that the situation will deteriorate any further.”

During his interaction with newspersons, Chief Minister Sarma also blamed the Congress for similar conflicts during its regime.

The Assam Chief Minister mentioned, “If we go back to the history of the state during Congress rule, such situations have happened 12 times. During such times almost 1600 people lost their live (on every occurence), when the Congress was in power. But now I dont want to make it (politicize) in terms of Congress or BJP.”

It may be mentioned that conflict broke out in Manipur since May 3, but since then people have been yearning for total peace and normalcy.
