Over 1 lakh teachers are on an indefinite strike since September 8 seeking fulfilment of 3 core demands
More than a week has passed by, but over 1 lakh teachers in Odisha are just refusing to withdraw their indefinite strike. The agitation which began under the banner of the All Utkal Primary Teachers Federation (AUPTF) on September 8 has affected students in over 50000 schools across the state.
The teachers have resorted to the indefinite strike demanding- the abolition of the contractual appointment system, restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), as well a hike in grade pay.
Reports stated that, the state government has set up a sub-committee of five members to review the demands of the protesting teachers. The committee will submit its report to the inter-ministerial panel, and then the government will make the final decision regarding the demands of the teachers.
The Odisha Government has directed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) to submit a daily report of each teacher.
The Director of Elementary Education, has instructed the BEOs to keep records of teachers who are absent from school due to the strike and those who have attended and performed their duties, particularly the contractual teachers.
