As the ongoing deadlock continues regarding the removal of Manipur University VC Adya Prasad Pandey, students and teachers bodies have gathered for a crucial meet at the state capital Imphal today.

As the agitation enters its 49th day today, some major discussions are being held among the stakeholders to decide the next course of action ahead of the 48 hour long general strike.

Earlier, the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) called for a 48 hour general strike from the midnight of July 17 till 19th July.

In a bid to break the current deadlock in Manipur university, the state government had earlier written to the HRD ministry requesting it to send VS Pandey on leave with immediate effect.

In the letter written by Manipur Chief Secretary J Suresh Babu, it was urged to the HRD Ministry for setting up a high level enquiry committee to probe the allegations against the beleagured vice chancellor.

The letter, dated July 10, and addressed to the secretary, department of Higher Education Ministry of HRD, added that during the enquiry period, the HRD may consider appointment of a pro-vice chancellor for the time being.
