Assam: Gold worth Rs 25 lakh seized in Jorabat; 4 including a woman, held

The illicit gold consignment was being transported from Meghalaya to Rajasthan via the intercepted vehicle.
Guwahati police along with Special Task Force (STF) Assam in a joint operation seized over 500 grams of gold and arrested four smugglers, including a woman in Jorabat on Thursday.
The arrested have been identified as Inayat Ali aged 30, Jannat Begum aged 56, and Mohammad Yusuph aged 38 hailing from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The driver of the vehicle has also been taken into custody, identified as Veeru Singh (27), a resident of East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.
According to police, based on specific inputs indicating smuggling activities in the region, city police intercepted the vehicles and seized the gold in coil shape weighing 518.8 grams. The gold was found concealed in a vehicle.
The police added that the gold consignment was being transported from Meghalaya to Rajasthan.
The exact market value of the seized gold is estimated at Rs 25 lakh.
Further investigation is underway.
