Tripura: BJP and TIPRA Motha workers clash in Sepahijala

First Published: 11th September, 2023 19:25 IST

12 persons were reportedly injured in the incident and at least 5 two-wheelers were vandalized

Tension prevails in Tripura’s Sepahijala district following clash between BJP and TIPRA Motha workers. At least 12 persons were reportedly injured in the incident. Few 2-wheelers were also vandalized by those involved in the violence that took place in Takarjala and Jampuijala areas.
While the BJP alleged that TIPRA Motha workers stopped the saffron party workers from attending a party meeting, the Opposition party alleged that it was the BJP workers who had triggered the chaos.
After the landslide victory in the recent by-polls, the BJP has been engaged in hectic campaigning in Sepahijala particularly in Takarjala and Jampuijala in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.
Reacting to the incident, Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee said, “Today we had organized a BJP workers conference in Takarjala with the sole objective of discussing about the preparedness for the LS polls. We want to consolidate our position further to ensure that Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister once again.
I got to know that our workers have been attacked by miscreants in different places. They were obstructed from attending our party program. But our workers overcame all odds and managed to attend the program. The results of the by-elections where our candidates won with huge margin clearly shows that people have trust only on the BJP.”
Takarjala MLA and TIPRA Motha leader Biswajit Koloi reached the spot and took stock of the situation. MLA Koloi accused the BJP of bringing outsiders to the area and inciting violence which harmed local residents.
The district administration soon swung into action and has deployed security forces to prevent any untoward incident further.
