Good news for Meghalaya as three mountain bikers from the state have been selected to represent India in the Asian Continental Championships to be held in Trivandrum, Kerala, from October 26–29.

Anissa Dariti Lamare, India’s first female downhill mountain bike rider, will be competing in the downhill category as part of the Indian Team.

Apshai Griffith Niangti and Meban Aiboklang Suiam will be competing in the Men Elite DH rider category.

Kevin John Khyllait, a cross-country rider, from the state will also undergo training at the camp, after which, another selection will be held for this discipline to finalize the XC Indian Team in October.

Being the only female biker from the state for the past 10 years, Anissa said that she never approached for any financial aid from external sources.

“It has always been my family who have been supporting me through all my races to date. Now I have my own cycle shop that has helped me and also helped other riders,” said Anissa.

Apshai has been cycling for the past 10 years and has participated in almost 30 events.

His biggest accomplishment was being ranked in the top 10 at the Asian Enduro Series held in Nepal in 2017.

Meban, apart from racing and mountain biking, also has interest in motor car racing.

Some of the other states that will be part of the Indian team are Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, and Karnataka.
