However, Mondal said that the state government has refrained from taking any stern action as this will affect the mobile network in the state
Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has issued notices to various mobile companies for failing to clear power dues, Meghalaya Power Minister AT Mondal said on Friday.
Reportedly, over 200 mobile towers have not cleared their dues to the power department.
AT Mondal said that they are communicating with the mobile towers and service providers to pay the bills immediately.
“If they don’t pay the bill for quite long time definitely we will disconnect,” he added.
However, Mondal said that the state government has refrained from taking any stern action as this will affect the mobile network in the state.
“Strong action can be taken immediately. But the moment we disconnect all the towers, you see what will be the situation as far as network is concerned. We are taking both the side into consideration,” Mondal said.
While mobile companies have not paid their dues for their mobile towers, some companies have run away, and some are asking for new connections for the mobile towers.
“Even some organisations without paying have ran away. We are little bit strict about that. But this mobile tower and tele communication people keep on pressurising us to give new connections to new mobile towers,” Mondal added.
