Behera claims that the rampant butchering of animals in Himachal Pradesh is linked to natural disasters like landslides and cloudbursts
In a surprising turn of events, the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, Laxmidhar Behera, has urged the students to take a pledge to refrain from consuming meat.
Behera claims that the rampant butchering of animals in Himachal Pradesh is linked to natural disasters like landslides and cloudbursts that are occurring in the region.
Addressing the students, Behera voiced his concerns, saying, “Himachal Pradesh will face severe consequences if we don’t halt the butchering of innocent animals. This cruelty to animals has a hidden impact on our environment, causing landslides and cloudbursts that may not be immediately apparent but are connected.”
He further emphasized the need for individuals to become better human beings by giving up meat consumption.
The director’s comments have sparked controversy and criticism on social media platforms. Netizens have expressed their discontent, with some calling the remarks superstitious and detrimental to progress.
Sandeep Manudhane, an entrepreneur and IIT Delhi alumnus commented on the situation, saying, “The collapse is complete. These superstitious fools will destroy whatever little was built in 70 years”
Gautam Menon, a professor of biophysics, expressed sadness at the situation, stating, “In the current scenario, having views like those of the director of IIT Mandi is not an anomaly; it’s a reflection of the times.”
This isn’t the first time Director Behera has found himself amid controversy due to his statements. In the past, he gained attention for claiming to have conducted an exorcism using “holy mantras” to rid a friend’s apartment of “evil spirits.”
The director has not yet responded to the controversy surrounding his recent comments.
