A female leopard’s carcass was found in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district today.
The carcass of the leopardess was recovered at Bijuli village under the Dolamora forest range.
After receiving information about the carcass of the big cat, a team of Forest Department officials along with a veterinarian rushed to the spot.
The cause of death of the leopardess could not be ascertained as the carcass was decomposed.
Veterinarian Dr Debojit Phukan said that no injury marks were found on the carcass and the body parts were intact, so the big cat might have died due to natural causes. However, the samples have been sent to a laboratory to ascertain to cause of the leopardess’ death.
The carcass was later cremated by Forest Department officials and villagers.
It has been suspected that owing to the ongoing flood in Kaziranga National Park, the animals may have strayed out to the village and surrounding areas.
