Marcuise N Marak in clear terms said that ragging will not be allowed anymore in JNV
Days after a Class 10 student of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Meghalaya’s Williamnagar was brutally ragged landing him in the hospital, PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak has made a significant statement. According to Marak, ragging has been prevalent in the school since a long time, but such incidents were not reported since none of the victims came forward and raised their voice against the menace.
The minister, however, maintained that times have now changed in the school with strong anti-ragging measures being adopted by the school authorities especially under the initiative of the new Principal.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Minisdter Marcuise N Marak who is also the Williamnagar MLA said, “In JNV this was the practice, nobody knew this. No student has come forward and complained to the Principal or any of the authorities there. So this was the practice for a long time. But now since a new Principal has come he started anti-ragging campaign. He has been talking to the students and he is the one who wants to stop ragging in the JNV. So with his (Principal) steps, this boy got the courage and came forward to complain about the incident.”
Maintaining that stern actions will be taken against those found involved in ragging, Marak stated, “Ragging is not allowed anymore, it is a crime now. So DC has taken care of this case and he has already instructed the Principal. The Principal himself has also been campaigning that there should not be any ragging. Nobody came and complained before, that is why nobody knew. But now ragging will be stopped totally. Ragging will not be allowed.”
When asked about the condition of the ragging victim, the Meghalaya PHE minister informed, “now he has been shifted to the Tura Civil Hospital where his treatment is going on. District administration is taking care of it, he is recovering now.”
The incident took place on September 1, 2023. As per inputs, at least 15 students of Class XI called the victim student to a room and assaulted him injuring him grievously.
Seven students have been rusticated for their act and the other 10 have been temporarily suspended.
