Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie refutes allegations of nepotism

Mawrie hit back at HM Shangpliang and spoke how Shangpliang’s brother was named the mandal president in Shangpliang’s constituency Mawsynram
Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, Ernest Mawrie, has refuted allegations of nepotism made by HM Shangpliang, who resigned from the party today. He instead, hit back at Shangpliang and said how nepotism is evident in Mawsynram, Shangpliang’s constituency.
“If you go through the dictionary meaning of the word nepotism, it means favouring my relatives or close friends, but here in the BJP office, there is no Mawrie. There is no nepotism at all here,” Mawrie said.
Hitting back at Shangpliang on the issue of nepotism, Mawrie said “If you go to Mawsynram, you will find that his (Shangpliang) brother has been named the mandal’s president by us. Because we appointed his brother to be the president of Mondal at his request. Nepotism is there. So where is the nepotism in us? We don’t have this system of nepotism in the party. You will find here different names, different people in the party if you look for it.”
Regarding internal conflicts mentioned by Shangpliang in his resignation letter, Mawrie asserted, “The BJP is not at war, instead, we are cooperating as a state team under the leadership of our central leaders. We are a very disciplined party and we follow the instructions given by the central leader.”
Mawrie explained that all party programmes and operations are conducted according to the central office’s circulars, and there is strong coordination between the state, district, and Mondal teams. He asked Shampliang to provide clarification on the alleged internal conflict.
“At our party, we welcome anybody to join us. You are free to join the BJP, the door is open, and there is no binding that you cannot leave the party. As some people leave the party, some join the party. So there’s nothing to gain or lose,” said Mawrie.
Following HM Shangpliang’s resignation from the BJP, Ernest Mawrie said that Shangpliang had expressed interest in contesting the Lok Sabha elections but had requested a meeting with coalition partners to field a common candidate, a decision that only the central leadership can make.
“I had told him when the time comes, we will recommend his name. However, he requested that the BJP should convene a meeting with all coalition partners in the MDA 2 government for fielding a common candidate from the BJP for Lok Sabha polls which was not possible,” added Mawrie.
