So, at least in rainy season water level comes up. At that time if we start inland water project in our area it will be a great help for the farmers to transport their produce.”
He further said that harnessing the Simsang river will create a lot avenues in terms of trade and commerce with neighbouring Bangladesh. Momin said, “Apart from this we can also start coal transportation, limestone can be transported too from interior place like Sijurongora to Baghmara. If it is permitted we can transport it ot Bangladesh also. These are some of the prospects that we can have in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills.
We are requesting the concerned departments to explore the possibilities.”
It may be mentioned the river runs towards East, passing through Rongrengiri, Williamnagar, the headquarters of East Garo Hills district, Nongalbibra, Siju, Rewak and finally Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills district.
