Heroin worth Rs 10 crore seized in Tripura; One held

Tripura police on Saturday seized a large quantity of heroin worth around Rs 10 crore and arrested one person in this connection at Damcherra area on the Tripura-Mizoram border.
The arrested person has been identified as Khalil Uddin, a resident of Jurbari village, Patharkandi area in the Karimganj district of Assam.
Superintendent of Police for North Tripura district, Bhanupada Chakraborty, who was present at the scene, revealed that the seizure occurred during a special inspection at Damcherra, in North Tripura district.
During the search operation at least 100 soap boxes of heroin weighing 1.3 kg with an estimated market value of Rs 10 crores was seized from the vehicle, he added.
A case under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Damcherra police station and the vehicle was seized by police.
Chief Minister Manik Saha lauded the Tripura Police and taking to X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said, “Another successful drive of @TripuraPolice under the #NeshamuktTripura campaign.”
“Around 1.3 kg heroin worth Rs 10 crore has been seized at Damcherra during special Naka checking. Also, one person has been arrested & a vehicle seized in this connection. I appreciate the commitment of Tripura Police towards our goal of building drugs-free state”, he added.
It’s noteworthy that a similar quantity of heroin was seized in Choraibari, located in the Tripura-Assam border region within the same district, just 14 days ago.
