In a significant development, students and faculty members of Tezpur University developed an Android app named “Demsi” to conveniently type Bodo texts on Android devices. The app was launched at Tezpur University.

The app is available in the Google Play Store and makes texting in the Bodo language convenient by suggesting possible words when the user types the first few letters of a word. It can also be used in existing software platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram.

The project was initiated by Sudem Daimari, an MTech (IT) student from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), under the guidance of Prof. SK Sinha of the CSE department. It gained the attention of Dr. Nayan Basumatary, an alumnus of the CSE department and chairman of the Sub Divisional Board of Tribal Development, Tezpur. Together with Prof. Utpal Sharma of the CSE department, they further refined and developed the app. They were assisted by Sujal Kumar a student of BTech (ECE) and Manash Pratim Lahkar, a PhD student of the CSE department.

Key Features of the “Demsi” App:

Bodo word suggestions: The app simplifies text input by providing word suggestions as users type, reducing the effort required for constructing sentences.

Preservation of Bodo script: In an era where English alphabet usage has become prevalent, the app encourages the use of the Bodo script, preserving the language’s unique identity.
