AI-integrated robotic boat cleans Umiam lake

The AI-powered marine boats has the capacity to collect upto 200 kgs of waste from water bodies in just four hours

The Meghalaya government has turned to the latest AI technology to clean it lakes and water-bodies.

In an effort to clean up the Umiam Lake in Shillong, the state government took an innovative step by using an AI-integrated marine robotic boat to clean up the waste floating on the lake.

A first-of-its-kind initiative that the State government has taken under its Smart Village Movement (SVM) initiative in collaboration with technology partner Clearbot, the capabilities of the robotic boat was demonstrated at Kyndong Rella in Mawdun area of the lake.

It is an innovative step to address environmental challenges by using advanced waste management tools to restore the beauty of Umiam Lake.

The AI-powered marine boats will identify pollution hotspots and continuously monitor those areas. The boat can collect over 200 kg of waste in four hours of operation.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma appreciating the innovating step, wrote on X, “In a landmark step towards advancing waste management practices, an innovative demonstration featuring an AI-Integrated marine robotic boat for floating waste collection took place at Kyndong Rella in the Mawdun Area of Umiam Lake. This indeed is an innovative way to address environmental challenges. The initiative was spearheaded by the Government of Meghalaya under its Smart Village Movement initiative in collaboration with technology partner Clearbot. Great job team!”
