James Leichombam and his wife Praneswori, hailing from Churachandpur, are both working at ISRO
Amid the turmoil in Manipur, four scientists have bought laurels to the state. James Leichombam and his wife Praneswori, including Noel Chawang, and Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam James were part of the ISRO team, in carrying out a successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 at the moon’s south pole.
James Leichombam and his wife Praneswori’s house in Churachandpur was burned down during the ethnic violence that broke out on May 3. Currently, their families are staying in relief camps.
Amid such a huge loss, it’s the determination that led James and Praneswori achieve such a remarkable feat.
Congratulating Dr. Raghu, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that regardless of the difficulty of the challenge, the people of Manipur will always bounce back stronger.
“It’s heartening to share that a scientist from Manipur, Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, from Thanga, Bishnupur was part of the Chandrayaan moon landing mission. The setbacks we encounter from time to time cannot erase our 2000-year-old history. Regardless of the difficulty of the challenge, the people of Manipur will always bounce back stronger,” CM Biren Singh wrote on X.
Dr. Ningthoujam hails from Thanga in the Bishnupur district of Manipur. He is an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Manipur University. He passed out in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from IIT Kanpur.
He has around 150 papers published in reputable journals, 5 review articles, and 4 book chapters.
He was awarded the Scientific & Technical Excellence Award, DAE 2012, and the Young Achiever Award, SSPS 2010, in recognition of his substantial contributions to chemical research.
India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, successfully landed on the south polar region of the Moon, scripting history today at 6:04 PM. India became just the fourth country to land on the Moon after the United States, Russia, and China to achieve the feat.
