Govt working tirelessly to fix traffic issues in Guwahati and improve infrastructure: Assam CM

CM Sarma appealed to the people to not litter the newly built Maligaon flyover and to help keep it clean

Assam government has been working on a war footing to manage the issue of traffic jams on the busy roads of Guwahati and enhance infrastructure throughout the state, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Ahead of the much-anticipated inauguration of the 2.6-kilometre-long Maligaon flyover on August 30, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the flyover construction site to assess the progress of the work and interacted with the workers on site.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister emphasised on the government’s hard work to improve the state’s infrastructure and to ease traffic congestion in Guwahati by constructing flyovers in the shortest possible time.

He additionally talked about the upcoming flyovers in Guwahati and how they will help in addressing traffic issues.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore, the Maligaon flyover is expected to ease the long traffic snarls that have been a major issue in the locality for a long time, said CM Sarma.

The work of the four-lane flyover is almost complete, as workers are giving the finishing touches to the flyover and setting up things for the grand inauguration.

Speaking about the beautification work of the flyover, CM Sarma said that the flyover will feature a rainbow arch and a globe at the Tiniali Junction. Moreover, traditional Assamese attire, musical instruments, scenic forests, animals, flora and fauna are also being painted beneath the flyover.

CM Sarma appealed to the people to not litter the new flyover and to help in keeping it clean.

Speaking about the under-construction flyover in Zoo Road, Chief Minister Sarma said that the flyover will be made open for the public on the 5th day of Navratri or Panchami of the Durga Puja festivities or before Diwali.

Speaking about the upcoming flyover from Dighalipukhari to Bamunimaidam, Chief Minister Sarma said the tender process for the construction of the flyover has been completed.

He informed that an expert team is working on the usage of an advanced construction technique for the flyover.
