Assam: Narrow escape for Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan after mob attacks Municipal Board office

Roadside vendors led by accused Madan Shah forcibly entered the Municipal Board office and attacked officials
Assam’s Dibrugarh MLA and a senior BJP leader Prasanta Phukan had a narrow escape after an irate mob went on a rampage at the office of the Chairman of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board.
The attack was carried out around 1:30 PM this afternoon, when the MLA was chairing a Board Meeting with officials of the Municipal Board to discuss and take steps to resolve different civic issues.
As per a complaint filed with the police, the mob first attacked the vehicle of MLA Prasanta Phukan and then proceeded to attack the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board as well as other Ward Members present in the meeting.
In its complaint, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board accused Madan Shah of leading roadside vendors in orchestrating the attack. It has been learnt that Madan Shah is an owner of a roadside eatery in the Dibrugarh town.
The complaint letter further mentioned that the mob also assaulted and hit the Ward Commissioners. If that was not all, the ‘perpetrators’ even tried to kill Dibyajyoti Hazarika, who is the Ward Commissioner of Ward Nos.5.
As per inputs, the mob also damaged doors and windows of the office. Soon police rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control.
A case has been filed against accused Madan Sah and others under relevants sections of the IPC. Accused Madan Sah has been arrested.
Further probe to ascertain as to what triggered the attack is underway.
